Cardinals Hand Rangers Fourth-Straight Loss

MADISON, N.J. (January, 15, 2011) - The Catholic University Cardinals (12-4, 4-1 Landmark) were able to pull away in the second half and defeat the Rangers this afternoon, 83-62 in Baldwin Gym. Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) led the way once again for the Rangers with17 points.

After a tightly contested first 15 minutes of the game, the Cardinals were able to create separation from the Rangers in the final minutes of the half courtesy of 8-0 run in the last 2:32 of the half. The game was tied a total of seven times in the first frame with the lead changing hands over nine times.

Drew (7-7, 1-4 Landmark) would make one last attempt to get back into the ball game after they scored six-straight points, cutting the the Cardinal lead down to four. Catholic called a timeout with 13:27 remaining on the clock and before you knew it they had a double-digit lead and would not look back.

Britta Olsen (Hallowell, Maine, Hall-Dale) had a career night, scoing 12 points, dishing off five assists and grabbing six rebounds. Jen Mateo (Union City, N.J./Union City) had a career-high 10 assists in the contest while falling three points shy of her first career double-double.

For the Cardinals, Liz Briones was one of four players in double figures. She scored a game-high 18 points, going 8-9 from the floor and 2-of-3 from downtown.

The Rangers will return to action on Monday when they host Vaughn College at 7:00 PM in Baldwin Gym.
