Marywood University Downs Women's Basketball, 53-39

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team returned to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Monday night at Marywood University. The Pacers shot nearly 56 percent from the 3-point line in the first half and forced the Cavaliers into 24 turnovers en route to a 53-39 victory.

Freshman forward Colleen Stewart led the Cabrini effort, matching a career-high with 10 points on 3-for-7 shooting overall. Stewart narrowly missed her first career double-double, gathering nine rebounds.

Freshman guard MaryKate McCann scored eight points on 2-for-5 shooting in 25 minutes played off the Cavaliers' bench. Senior guard Julie Bonomo and freshman guard Brittany Sandone each contributed five points in the loss.

Marywood raced to a 14-3 advantage nearly six minutes after the opening whistle. The Pacers pushed their lead to 20 points, 25-5, with 9:00 remaining before the break.

Yet, the Cavaliers closed the first half on a 10-3 run and trimmed their deficit to 13 points, 28-15, at the intermission. Stewart led the Blue & White during the opening 20 minutes, pairing five points with six assists.

However, Marywood reasserted a 20-point cushion, 37-17, at the 15:46 mark of the second half. The Pacers owned a game-high 21 points lead, 39-18, with 14:36 remaining.

Junior guard Mariah Schaffer led the Marywood offense with a game-high 15 points. Sophomore forward Jamie Halloran netted nine points, claimed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.

The Pacers out-scored the Cavaliers in the paint, 22-12. Marywood also turned 24 Cabrini miscues into 22 points.

Cabrini (3-9, 2-2) embarks on a seven-day hiatus before returning to the hardwood at Nerney Field House on Monday, Jan. 17 versus Cedar Crest College at 6 p.m.
