Maroons Roll Over #5 Rochester

CHICAGO -- Corey Mulder off the bench to score a career-high 16 points as the University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated the fifth-ranked University of Rochester 87-59 in University Athletic Association play Friday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.

The win marked the Maroons' (10-3 overall, 2-0 UAA) second victory in six days and third this season over an opponent ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III. Chicago defeated Washington (Mo.) University 73-71 on Jan. 8 after edging Carthage College 49-46 on Dec. 13. Both teams stood fifth in the national polls at the time.

Chicago trailed for most of the game's first eight minutes, but by halftime built a 47-32 advantage. Rochester (11-2, 1-1) could get no closer than 13 points in the second stanza.

Mulder, who led five Maroons in double figures, connected on five of six attempts from the field in 18 minutes of action.

Meghan Herrick and Taylor Simpson each tallied 13 points. Joann Torres and Bryanne Halfhill each added 10 points as Chicago extended its winning streak to six games.

Simpson grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, while Halfhill handed out seven assists.

Chicago outshot Rochester 49% to 33% and forced 20 turnovers while committing a season-low 11.

Jodie Luther and Laney Ming sparked the Yellowjackets with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
