UW-La Crosse Rallies for Win over UW-River Falls

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team rallied for a 62-48 victory over UW-River Falls Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while the Falcons fall to 11-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference. Both teams are receiving votes on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll.

UW-L missed its first nine shots from the field and trailed 11-0 with 13:19 remaining in the first half. The Eagles rallied to cut the lead to 13-10 with 10:55 left and later tied the game at 18-18 with 4:53 remaining. UW-L then ended the half scoring the final six points to lead 24-18. 

The Eagles led 35-29 with 12:55 left in the game when they went on a 5-0 run to lead by 11 points. UW-River Falls cut the deficit to 42-39 with 8:41 remaining and 51-46 with 5:21 left. UW-L's Danielle Frank scored on a layup to make it a seven-point lead and after a UW-River Falls' turnover, Frank scored on a layup after getting an offensive rebound. She was fouled on the play and converted the free throw for a 56-46 lead. 

UW-River Falls went one-for-nine from the field in the final 3:42 as the Falcons could get no closer than eight points the rest of the game.

Frank led UW-L with 15 points, 14 rebounds, eight blocks and four steals. She was seven-of-10 from the field and one-of-three at the free throw line.

Melissa Lang added 13 points for the Eagles while Taylor Larson finished with 10. Lindsey Litrenta had nine points and six assists. 

UW-L shot 41.8% from the field, including 53.8% (14-of-26) in the second half. The team shot 29.2% (seven-of-29) from three-point range in the game and 56.3% (nine-of-16) at the line.

Tiffany Gregorich led UW-River Falls with 21 points and four steals. She also had seven rebounds. Maranda Dohrn added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Falcons shot 36.2% from the field, including 12.5% (one-of-eight) from three-point range, and 38.5% (five-of-13) at the free throw line.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 19 at UW-Oshkosh starting at 7:05 p.m.
