ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Led by the stellar guard play of senior Chelsie Schweers (Chesapeake, Va.) and rookie Tiffany Davis (Hampton, Va.), the 4th ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University (12-1, 6-0) posted a season-high 97 points and more than doubled up North Carolina Wesleyan (2-8, 1-4) on the road, 97-46. Schweers and Davis combined for 50 points in the win, as the Captains remained undefeated in league play.

CNU raced out to an early lead on the play of the impressive tandem. Schweers and Davis scored 30 of the Captains first 32 points and combined to knock down their first 11 shots, helping CNU pull ahead by 19 with 9:57 remaining in the first half. Davis led the way, scoring 18 points in the first half for CNU. The reserves stepped in for CNU and didn't let up, as the Captains took a 46-25 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Captains continued to push offensively, this time with Schweers taking the lead. She finished with 19 points in the second half, giving her 31 in the game, her eighth 25+ point performance this season. The senior guard was 12-of-18 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point land. She also added a rebound, assist, block and two steals.

The bench impressed, as well, scoring more than 50 points for the second straight game. After a 63-point performance at Mary Baldwin, the reserves scored 54 points against North Carolina Wesleyan. Leading the way was Davis, with 19 points, followed by a career-high 10 points from Andrea Hobbs and 8 points from Chantal Thomas.

CNU held the Bishops to just 23.9% shooting, marking the fifth straight game their opponent has failed to shoot 30% or better. The Captains shot 56.5% from the field in the game, knocking down 35-of-62 shots in the game, including an impressive 10-of-16 performance from beyond the arc.

The Battling Bishops were led by Tionne Evans, scoring 10 points with seven rebounds, while leading scorer Samantha Urquhart finished with seven points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Captains will return to action at the Freeman Center this Saturday, January 15 at 2:00 pm, as they play host to Ferrum College. The Panthers stretched CNU to overtime in the Freeman Center last season and were selected in the USA South Preseason Coaches Poll.
