The Aurora University Spartan women's basketball team took on the visiting Cougars of Concordia University Chicago Tuesday night in AU's Thornton Gymnasium for a Northern Athletics Conference matchup.

The Cougars would steal the win in the contest that was tied 60-60 with 1:30 left to play in the game. Concordia out scored AU in the final minute and a half 7-0 to secure to 67-60 win.

The Spartans offense struck first with a jumper by senior center Michelle Perry, assisted by sophomore forward Ania Dylewicz.  The Spartans would take a 7-2 lead, three and a half minutes into the first period on a three-point field goal by senior guard Ashley Daniels.

The Cougars offense would respond with an 8-0 run to take the lead 10-7 with 14:11 left to play in the first half, holding the Spartan offense scoreless for three and a half minutes.

The Spartans and Cougars would continue the see-saw battle throughout the half passing the lead back and forth six times.  Cougar senior guard Marche Smith drained a three-point field goal for the Cougars to lead the Spartans 15-14 with 12:48 remaining in the half.  The Spartans and the Cougars defenses would take over from there, not allowing a field goal for a four minute stretch in the half.

At the half, Concordia Chicago held a slim 28-27 lead over the Spartans off a last second jumper by Cougar senior forward Katie Leitermann.  Spartan junior guard, Jen Robinson led AU offensively with eight first-half points, with Perry close behind with seven points, five rebounds and four blocked shots.  Concordia junior guard Krystyna Rickett, led her squad into half with 10 points.

The Second half of the game would be no different than the first with seven lead changes the game would remain close.  The Cougars built the game's biggest lead of seven points, 50-43, midway through the second half only to see the lead evaporate and the Spartans knot the game 53-53 with 7:45 to play.

Concordia once again built a lead, this time of five points 60-55 with 2:46 to play in the game only to see the Spartans storm back and when AU's Dylewicz sank two free-throws with 1:27 to play in the game, the score was once again tied 60-60.

But as had been the story the previous times AU fought back to tie the game, Concordia seized control in the final minute for the eventual 67-60 win.

The Cougar's Leitermann put Concordia in front for the last time with a three-point field goal with 1:06 to play and after an unsuccessful AU possession, Concordia converted a lay-up and two free-throws in the final 30 seconds for the win.

AU drops to 3-10 on the season and 0-6 in the NAC while Concordia improves to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the NAC.  AU was led by Daniels (12 points and six assists), Dylewicz (11 points), junior guard Jess Mason (10 points and seven rebounds) and Perry (nine points, five blocks and five rebounds). Concordia had all five starters score in double figures and tally 64 of the 67 points for the Cougars with Maja Despot leading with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
