RIVERDALE, NY – Renewing a rivalry that lay dormant for two seasons, the St. Joseph's women's basketball team dropped their first contest of 2011, falling 58-53 to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon. Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led the Lady Bears posting her second double-double of the season recording team-highs in points (10) and rebounds (11).

The Lady Bears, who entered the game averaging nearly 70 points a contest, managed to put up only 53 points on the board, plagued by a season worst 24.7 percent shooting from the field.

Despite the poor shooting effort, St. Joseph's carried a 28-24 lead into the lockers after a back a forth first half that saw four ties and six lead changes with Mount Saint Vincent managing to shoot only 18.6 percent from the floor in the opening frame.

Kristin Binckes (Brooklyn, NY/St. Savior) jumper to open the second half gave the Lady Bears their largest lead of the game, 30-24, but the Dolphins equalized the game at 32-32 five minutes into the period.

After St. Joseph's took a 39-34 lead at the 12:15 mark, which prompted a Mount Saint Vincent timeout, the Lady Bears offense stalled over the next five-and-a-half minutes, unable to record a field goal and allowing the Dolphins to go on a 13-1 run to take a 47-40 lead which they wouldn't relinquish.

The Lady Bears managed to cut the deficit to one on a Kelly McNamee (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) with 1:22 remaining and remained within one possession over the final minute, but couldn't convert on several opportunities to equalize the game or take the lead.

In addition to her double-double, Doran also matched a season-high swatting away three shots. McNamee added nine points in a reserve role and swiped a team-high four steals. Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) contributed eight points while dishing out out five assists.

Mount Saint Vincent (4-7) placed three Dolphins in double-figures led by Sarah Kluth who took game high honors in points (12), rebounds (16), assists (7) and steals (5). Kara McNish and Kerry O'Connor also scored 12 points apiece with McNish also recording a double-double with 13 rebounds.

With the victory, Mount Saint Vincent captures the last three meetings and leads the all-time series 13-9.

St. Joseph's (5-9, 1-0 HVWAC) returns to the court hosting City Tech on Monday, January 10th as the opening game of a doubleheader at Brooklyn Technical H.S. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the men to square off against City Tech at 9 p.m.
