Second Half Powers Knights to Seventh Skyline Win

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Holding just a one-point lead at the half, the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team defeated Farmingdale State College by a score of 66-45. The Knights boast a perfect 7-0 record in Skyline Conference play and a 10-2 overall record. The loss moves the Rams to 7-4 on the season and 5-2 in Skyline Conference play.

A back-and-forth contest until the 10:16 mark of the first half, the Knights took the lead for good on a free throw from sophomore Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.). The Mount pushed the lead to 12 on a pair of free throws from Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.) at the 5:01 mark, but the Rams would close the opening period on an 11-0 run. Senior Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied six points in the dwindling minutes and the Rams pulled to within one at the break (29-28). The Knights did not make a field goal over the final seven minutes and forty-three seconds of the half.

The Mount scored the first eight points of the second half to put the game out of reach for the Rams. Two quick layups from sophomore Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) provided some momentum for the Knights early in the second half. Farmingdale would get no closer than nine for the rest of the game, shooting just 25.0-percent over the final twenty minutes.

Junior Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.) netted a game-high 17 points and also tallied six rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Senior Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to compliment her 13-point performance, while Hartnett finished with eight points and six rebounds.

Chappel finished with nine points and nine rebounds, but it was Farmingdale sophomore Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) who led the Rams with 14 points and five steals.

In their next contest, the Knights will host Skyline Conference foe, Sage. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening.
