Westminster Drops Sixth Straight PAC Game in Loss to W&J

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost its sixth straight conference game for the longest conference losing streak since the Titans joined the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in 2000 with a 66-58 loss at home to Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon.

The Titans fall to 3-10 on the season and 0-6 in the PAC. The Presidents improve to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Senior guard Kaitlin McCarthy led the Titans with 18 points and tied a season high with seven assists. During the game she moved into third place in team history with 341 career assists, surpassing Jennifer Petures (1999-2003) who had 336 for third place. Still ahead of McCarthy are Pam Beatty (1987-91) with 550 and Brenda Rodgers (1982-86) with 384.

Freshman guard Hannah Shaffer also bucketed nine points for the Titans while freshman guard Gabby Holko sank eight points.

Sophomore forward Katie Hughes led the Titans with six rebounds to go with her four points.

Ashley Kirkpatrick led Washington & Jefferson with a game-high 19 points followed by Vanessa Rivera with 15 points and Catlyn Kriston with 11 points. Rivera led the Presidents with six rebounds.

W&J shot 44.7 percent (21-47) from the floor and the Titans shot 33.3 percent (21-63).

After W&J led 31-25 at halftime, the Presidents would take their largest lead of the second half with an 11-point, 42-51 lead with 7:52 remaining. The Titans cut the lead down to five points on two occasions with 5:15 left and with 2:08 remaining. W&J made its next eight free throws to take a10-point, 65-55 lead with 24 seconds left to secure the win.

Westminster travels to Thiel Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
