Kean Women Push Past Rowan, 71-59

Glassboro, N.J. (1/5/11) – Sophomore Simone Smith was one of three Cougars in double-digits as the Kean University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in NJAC play by defeating Rowan University, 71-59, Wednesday night in Glassboro.

With the win #9 Kean improves to 11-2 overall while the loss drops the Profs to 6-6 and 1-1 in conference action.

After see-sawing early in a light scoring beginning of the first half, the Cougars used a 12-2 run over a three minute span towards the end of the half to sprint to a 32-21 lead, their first double-digit lead of the game.  Smith and sophomore Naimah Clemons both had four points in the run.  Senior Tiffany Patrick led all players with nine points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Cougars controlled the second half holding a double-digit lead throughout and stretched that advantage to as many as 19 on four separate occasions.

Patrick finished with a double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds while Clemons added 13 points, four assists and four steals.  Smith tallied a career-high 15 points along with eight rebounds in the win.

Kean continues NJAC play and will host local foe Montclair State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
