McDaniel takes out Ursinus, 53-50

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus put three players in double figures, but, was not able to pull off a late second half rally as McDaniel (2-8, 2-5 Centennial) defeated the Bears (8-3, 5-2 Centennial) 53-50 Wednesday evening at Helfferich Hall.

For the Green Terror, senior forwards Cara Thompson and Whitney Snoops each had 14 points, with Thompson grabbing ten rebounds. Thompson made one of two foul shots with 10 seconds left to give McDaniel a three-point edge. Ursinus, on its last possession, was unable to tie as a shot by senior guard Jaclyn Hilf was blocked by senior guard Kim Acton with three seconds left.

For Ursinus, freshman guard Diamond Lewis had a team-high 13 points, with junior guard Kristy George netting 11. Junior forward Lindsay Teuber had ten points and 11 rebounds for the Bears. The Bears were plagued by cold shooting early on, connecting on just 34.5 percent of their shots in the first half (10-for-29). McDaniel used the foul line to its advantage, making 15-of-16 shots (93.8 percent) in the contest.

Trailing by eight with 3:39 left, Ursinus went on late rally propelled by five straight points from George, capped by a layup with 2:08 left to cut the deficit to 52-50. Ursinus had trailed by as much as ten points in the second half, after falling behind 34-28 at intermission.

The Bears head to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
