Wartburg College ran out to a 22-4 lead seven minutes into the game and never looked back as the Knights defeated UW-Stout 87-59 in the championship game of the Wartburg College Holiday Tournament Thursday.
The Knights (12-0) held a 49-24 halftime lead and finished the game with three players in double figures, but none with more than 13 points as both teams played deep into their bench.
Stout (5-7) got eight points from Whitney Rawdon, who was named to the all-tournament team, and Amy Van Hulzen to lead the way. Rachel Hanley and Gretta Layman finished with seven points. Stout shot 18-53 (.340) from the floor, 3-17 (.176) from 3-point range and 20-35 (.571) from the free throw line.
Wartburg was led by Maddie Sadecky with 13 points, Samantha Harrington with 12 and Carly Jacobs with 10. The Knights shot 28-56 (.500) from the floor, 7-18 (.389) from 3-point range and 24-28 (.857) from the free throw line. Wartburg outrebounded Stout, 43-32.
Stout committed 30 turnovers, while Wartburg turned the ball over 29 times. The Knights notched 16 steals, while Stout pick 14.
