Cal Lutheran Splits Pair in Aloha State

HONOLULU, Haw. - The women's basketball team won its second of two contests on Monday night earning a 71-65 victory over Lake Forest (IL) earning its first win away from Gilbert Arena this season. Cal Lutheran dropped a 79-53 decision to Ithaca (NY) on Sunday to begin the event.

The Regals trailed by only eight after the first half of play, with the Bombers using a 6-for-13 performance behind the arc to lead 40-32 at intermission.

In contrast Cal Lutheran knocked down only 1-of-14 triples for the game while the Bombers went 8-for-19. Ithaca shot nearly 60 percent in the second half to lengthened its margin to as many as 28 points.

CLU was outrebounded 39-28 including 13-6 on the offensive glass. The Regals committed 18 turnovers which the Bombers converted into 19 points, while in contrast Cal Lutheran scored only four points off nine IC miscues.

In only 19 minutes Starla Wright led Cal Lutheran with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Four different Ithaca players scored in double figures, led by Jessica Farley's 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Cal Lutheran 71, Lake Forest 65 - F
CLU held double-digit leads in both halves including an early 13-2 margin just over five minutes into the game. LFC regained the lead following both sizeable deficits and led 61-60 following one of Emily Weber's game-high 28 points.

Cal Lutheran's Rachel Heagy and Brianna Parker combined to spark an 8-1 run with teammates Erica Whitley and Meaghan Goodenough knocking down late, game-clinching free throws to seal the game.

Parker notched her third double-double with 11 rebounds and a season-high 19 points. Goodenough dished out a career-high nine assists in the victory, the most by any Regal since the 2006-07 campaign. The junior contributed a season-high seven points.

Cal Lutheran (2-5) will play four home games in five days coming off Christmas weekend starting with a 5 p.m. contest on Monday, Dec. 27 against Rensselaer (NY).
