#11 Mount Union Runs Past Wilmington, 79-61

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Mount Union's nationally-ranked women's basketball team used an early 20-point run en route to a 79-61 victory over Wilmington in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The host Quakers scored the game's first six points before Mount Union's Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) scored five straight points, triggering a run which saw the Purple Raiders take a 20-6 lead with 10:21 left in the first half.

Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) was Mount Union's top scorer, finishing with 16 points, includiung a 4 of 5 performance from 3-point land.

LaMattina added 14 points and three steals while Brittany Kilgore (Northfield/Nordonia) put in 11 points.

Mount Union (7-1, 3-1) closed the opening period with an eight-point run, including two treys by Crider and then a jumper by LaMattina, which helped the Raiders take a 42-21 lead into intermission.

Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) gave the Raiders their largest advantage -- 25 points -- with 4:48 remaining in the game. She buried a 3-pointer to increase the gap to 74-49.

For Wilmington (3-6, 1-3), Olivia Waters scored 17 points while Bethany Ahrens contributed 10.

The Mount Union women, who are ranked 11th by ESPN/USA Today and 13th by D3Hoops.com, will return to action on Wednesday when they host OAC opponent Muskingum at 7:30 p.m.
