RICHARDSON, TX (12.20.10) – The winless Stevenson University women picked the wrong night for a road trip to the UT Dallas campus. The UTD Comets, just two days removed from their first loss of the season, roared back Monday, rudely treating their guests in a runaway 80-39 victory.

The Comets (10-1), who fell for the first time this season Saturday (a road loss at the University of the Ozarks), bounced back with a vengance, running out to a 35-12 lead in the first half, then adding to the totals with a 45-27 advantage after halftime.

Three Comets finished in double figures despite playing barely half of the game. Tarneisha Scott topped the list with an 18-point night while Lyndsey Smith added 16. Tawni Ichimura hit three of UTD's eight 3-pointers in the game to finish with 11.

From the field, UTD hit 47.4 percent, including a second-half 54.2 percent attack despite Coach Polly Thomason liberally emptying the bench. After holding the Mustangs (0-9) to just 3-of-23 before halftime, UTD allowed Stevenson to finish the night at just 28.3%. The Comets also blocked six shots and forced 26 turnovers, which led to 34 points.

Stevenson scored a three-pointer on their first possession of the game, but didn't score again until UTD had raced out to a 28-3 lead at the 7:44 mark of the first period. A brief 9-7 run by the Mustangs made it 35-12 at half.

Stevenson picked up the pace slightly in the second half, but UTD was able to continuously build on the lead, stretching it out to 43 points (76-33) at the 2:28 mark.

UTD now begins its holiday break before returning to action Dec. 30 against Carthage College in a game to be played in Sherman at Austin College.
