READING, Pa. – On Sunday, Gallaudet University faced a team that got to where the Bison want to go by the end of the season. GU went up against defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champion Penn State-Berks on the road at the Beaver Community Center. The Bison posted a 67-51 victory to give the Buff and Blue a perfect 9-0 record overall and an unblemished mark in the conference at 6-0 in first place.

Gallaudet is off to its best start under the guidance of Coach Kevin Cook, now in his fourth season, as the Bison enter the Winter Break. In the past three weeks the Bison have garnered national attention as they have been receiving votes for the national Top 25 polls. In nine seasons from 2000-09 the Bison never won more than seven games in a year. Cook led the Bison to a 14-12 record last season, the first winning record in a decade.

Penn St.-Berks (3-6, 2-4 NEAC) won the NEAC tournament last season as the No. 3 seed and earned the conference automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

The Bison trio of senior forward/center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.), senior center Nukeitra Hayes (Anderson, Ind.) and freshman guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) combined to score Gallaudet's first 19 points. GU led 17-5 less than four and a half minutes into the game. The Bison took a 31-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lions pulled to within two, 33-31, on a Jasmine Harris-Kane (17 points) bucket but that was as close as they got to GU. The Bison led 59-51 with 3:06 left in regulation. Penn St.-Berks didn't score another point in the game from that point on as GU tacked on some insurance points. The 67 points scored is the second lowest made by Gallaudet, who is averaging 77.8 points per game and a scoring margin of 27 points over opponents.

Faafiti led the Bison with 16 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and five steals. The double-double is the fourth this season for the All-American. Hayes recorded her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Shaquana McDonough (Pembroke, Mass.) was the other Bison to reach double figures with 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists and steals. Latham finished with her seven points she netted in the first four minutes of play.

Penn St.-Berks had two players reach 17 points in Harris-Kane and Steph Binder (seven rebounds).

Gallaudet is off until the New Year. The Bison will need to be ready for their first game back on Saturday, January 8, when they travel to face SUNYIT (6-1, 5-0). The Wildcats are the only other team undefeated in the NEAC standings. The following day the Bison go up against SUNY Cobleskill (5-3, 4-1). The road doubleheader begins a tough three week stretch where the Bison will face SUNYIT and Cobleskill twice.
