Bantams Prevail in Non-League Women's Hoops Action

HARTFORD, CT-  The Trinity College Bantams raced to a 61-35 victory over the Lasell College Lasers in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night at Oosting Gym.  With the win, Trinity improved to 3-1 this season while Lasell remains on a five game skid, at 0-5.

 

Bantam junior guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, CT) led all scorers in the contest with 13 points, playing in less than 20 minutes.  Eleven additional Bantams put points on the board for the victors with Molly McGlynn (Sleepy Hallow, NY) notching nine and Shantell Hanniford (Nantucket, MA) tallying seven.  Other game-bests came from Rebecca Cohn (San Francisco, CA) with six rebounds, Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, CT) with five assists, and Kristen Fahey (Cumberland, RI) with five steals.

 

Lasell's freshman guard Kayla Vincelette (Westport, MA) produced a team-high ten points in the defeat while sophomore guard Ashley Slattery(Weymouth, MA) added six points and three rebounds.   Senior guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) and sophomore forward JoAnna Bishop (So. Burlington, VT) combined for ten points.  Farr and Vincelette distributed three assists each.

 

It was a low scoring first half as the teams broke for intermission with Trinity holding a nine point cushion, at 23-14.  The iron was unkind on both sides leaving Trinity shooting just 25.0% (9-for-36) and Lasell shooting 22.7% (5-for-22).  

 

Upon returning to action, Trinity found their edge and improved to 42% shooting in the frame (15-for-35).  The Lasers also enhanced their stats, finding the net 32% of the time (8-for-25) in the second half.

 

Throughout the contest, Trinity out-rebounded the Lasers 52-37 and made just seven turnovers to Lasell's 26. 

 

In their next contest, the Lasers will tip-off against Framingham State University, on Saturday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m. at the Framingham Athletics & Recreation Center.
