Schroeder Scores 16 as the B-W Women Win Fourth Straight With a 70-57 Victory at Wilmington

BEREA, OHIO – Senior 2-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) scored a team-high 16 points as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team won its fourth straight game as it defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 70-57, today (Saturday, December 11, 2010) in the Fred Raizk Arena in Wilmington.

With her 16 points, Schroeder stayed in eighth place on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list with 1,088 career points.  In addition to Schroeder for B-W, now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC, junior forward Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/ St. Mary's Central Catholic) scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and freshman forward Lexi Rohrback (Tiffin/ Columbian) came off the bench to scored 11 points and grab five caroms. For Wilmington, now 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, freshman forward Brianna Peters led the way with a game-high 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds and senior forward Olivia Waters had 15 points and six caroms.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the 18:51 mark when Carpenter made a jumper in the paint.  After the Quakers closed to within 4-2, B-W went on a 5-0 run to build a 9-2 lead at the 13:54 mark when junior forward Nancy Coulter (Washington Court House/ Miami Trace) made a layup. After Wilmington went on a 4-0 run to make the score 9-6, B-W went on an 11-0 run of its own to take a commanding 20-6 advantage with 9:48 left when Rohrbach made a jump shot in the paint.  Wilmington got back in the game when it went on a 7-0 run to make the score 20-13 at the 7:06 mark, but B-W then outscored the Quakers 16-10 the remainder of the half for a 36-23 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, the closest Wilmington would get is 12 points at 36-24 at the 19:19 mark when freshman guard Bethany Ahrens made one of two foul shots. The Yellow Jackets then built their lead to 15 points at 39-24 at the 18:57 mark when Schroeder made a three-pointer. B-W increased its lead to a game-high 22 points on two separate occassions with the last at 54-32 with 10:43 left when Schroeder grabbed an offensive rebound at scored. Wilmington again would close to 12 points at 68-56 wityh 36 seconds left.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 15 when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to play Marietta College in an OAC game at 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen to all of the action on either campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, or via the WBWC Internet web site at www.wbwc.com.

In addition, two Yellow Jacket women's and men's basketball doubleheaders will be telecast on SportsTime Ohio this winter. The games are the January 29, 2011 twinbill versus Wilmington College and the Third Annual "Take a Kid to the Game" Day doubleheader versus Ohio Northern University on February 19, 2011.
