Oswego State Wins Conference Opener 73-68 at Fredonia

Meagan Stover led the Lakers with 18 points off the bench, while Kayla Ryan and Wanda Sanchez chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively. The Blue Devils outrebounded Oswego State 47-27 in the game, but the Lakers came away with 16 steals.

The Lakers led throughout the first half until Fredonia took a 27-26 lead with three minutes remaining after a Becky Hebert layup. Oswego State closed the half on a 8-2 run to take a 34-29 lead into intermission.

The Devils stormed out of the gates as they went on a 16-5 run to take a 45-39 lead with 14 minutes left in the game.  The Lakers responded with a 12-1 lead to grab a 51-46 lead after a layup by Traci Bacon with 10 minutes remaining. The rest of the game saw four ties and six lead changes. With 27 seconds on the clock and Oswego State clinging to a three-point advantage at 71-68, Stover stepped to the charity stripe, making two key insurance free throws to seal the 73-68 win.

Hebert finished with a double-double for Fredonia, registering 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Grace Moore chipped in 14 points. Caroline Hourihan stuffed the statsheet with 11 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Oswego State continues its Western New York roadtrip tomorrow when it squares off at Buffalo State with a 2 p.m. tip.
