ABILENE, TX (12.2.10) - The UT Dallas women's basketball team is off to a 6-0 start for the first time in program history after senior Tarneisha Scott collected her third "double-double" of the season to lead the Comets to a 66-52 American Southwest Conference win at Hardin-Simmons Thursday night.

The Comets (now 6-0, 4-0 ASC) tied their best start ever (5-0 in 2002) with five straight wins at home before making their first road trip of the year this weekend. UTD wraps up the short road trip Friday at 1 p.m. at McMurry.

In a battle of previously unbeaten teams, Scott led three Comets in double digits as she ended the night with a game-high 20 points in addition to 13 rebounds. Scott hit 9-of-17 shots from the field and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line while adding a team-best four steals. Senior Tawni Ichimura and junior Lyndsey Smith each added 13 points in the victory.

UTD grabbed a five-point lead, 23-18, late in the first half only to watch the host Cowgirls climb back within two points, 28-26, at the break. The two squads would trade leads six times in the second half before the Comets grabbed the lead for good, 49-46, with 5:59 left in the contest on an old-fashioned three-point play by junior Brittany Houston, sparking a 10-2 run by the Comets over a span of two minutes. UTD extended its lead to double digits with 2:05 left on a pair of free throws by junior Amy Doyle before pulling away for the 14-point win.

The Comets shot 48.3 percent (14-for-29) from the field in the second half as UTD outscored the Cowgirls, 38-26, over the final 20 minutes of play. UTD finished the game shooting 43.3 percent (26-of-60) for the game, hitting 3-of-9 shots from three-point range, while shooting 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the foul line.

HSU (now 4-1, 2-1 ASC) got 13 points from Alexis Popelar while Lindsey Newcombe added 12 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. The Cowgirls were held to just 35.7 percent (20-of-56) field goal shooting as a team and hit just 1-of-9 tries from behind the arc. HSU was 11-of-18 from the free-throw line.
