Balanced scoring helps Endicott cruise past Suffolk

Boston, Mass – Senior forward Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) led four players in double figures as the Endicott women's basketball team rolled past host Suffolk, 81-61, in non-conference action at Regan Gymnasium.

Vitale scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down ten rebounds for her second double-double of the season.  Classmate Brittany Kelleher (Wakefield, Mass.) chipped in 12 points and ten boards for her second double-double in as many games. 

Senior guard Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.) did most of her damage in the first half, tallying 16 points and six steals in the opening 20 minutes.  Kelleher was a perfect five-for-five from the floor in the half, helping the Gulls take a commanding 49-31 lead into the break.

The visitors led by as many as 23 in the second frame before cruising to the 20-point win. 

Freshman guard Ashley Walenta (Plainfield, Conn.) tied a career-high with ten points off the bench for Endicott (5-1). 

Junior point guard Nicole Heffernan (Londonderry, N.H.) dished out a career-high six assists in the win, which helped the Blue and Green pick up their third straight win.

Freshman Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Rams' with 18 points on eight-of-13 shooting.  Sophomore Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, N.H.) added 17 points, including a pair from beyond the arc, in the loss. 

The Gulls benefitted from a 51-31 advantage in rebounding by scoring 22 second chance points.  Suffolk (2-4) turned the ball over 15 times in the first half alone, leading to 23 Endicott points. 

Endicott returns to action on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 showdown with Emmanuel (2-3) at MacDonald Gymnasium.  Suffolk welcomes Nichols at 1:00pm Saturday.
