Women's Basketball Earns First Win, Tops College of Notre Dame, 71-45

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Cabrini women's basketball team captured its first win of the 2010-11 regular season on Monday night, besting Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent the College of Notre Dame, 71-45. Freshman guard MaryKate McCann led the Cavaliers' offense with 11 points in the victory.

McCann shot 4-for-8 overall and grabbed three rebounds in 13 minutes played off the bench. Sophomore forward Melissa Kudzmas also reached double figures, scoring a career-high 10 points and adding 10 rebounds.

Freshman forward Michelle Petronaci and freshman guard Brittany Sandone chipped in eight points on 3-for-6 shooting. Senior guard Julie Bonomo contributed seven points in the victory.

Freshman guard Leithie Faison netted six points and swiped four steals. Freshman forward Maggie McElroy paired six points with seven boards.

The Cavaliers owned a comfortable 20-point advantage, 36-16, at halftime. Cabrini pushed its lead to a game-high 32 points with 5:36 remaining in the second half.

Senior forward Ebony Rivers led the Gators' offense with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting. Rivers also corralled 10 rebounds. Senior forward India Scott coupled 12 points with 10 caroms.

The Blue & White is 5-0 in its last five contests to begin the CSAC regular season schedule, dating back to the 2006-07 campaign.

Cabrini (1-3, 1-0) continues its CSAC slate at home on Thursday, Dec. 2 against league rival Gwynedd-Mercy College. Game time with the Griffins is set for 6 p.m.
