More news about: Drew

BOSTON, Mass. (November 19, 2010) - The Rangers put together an impressive comeback late in the game only to come up short in a 75-68 loss to Rutgers-Newark. Drew will move into the consolation match of the UMass-Boston Tournament tomorrow against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.

Drew (2-1) trailed by 11 points with 7:57 remaining in the game and nearly erased the deficit with an impressive 12-2 run over the next 3:40 to get within a point. Sophomore guard Dana Coronato (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) led off the offensive surge with a three pointer to get within eight. At the 6:14 mark Coronato would hit a shot from downtown to cut the lead down to three. After a Rutgers-Newark timeout, the Scarlet Raiders would get their first basket in almost two minutes, but the Ranger offense was not done. Junior Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) would cap the 12-2 run with a three of her own and a free throw to narrow the lead to one.

Rutgers-Newark (2-0) would respond and eventually hold off the Rangers over the final four minutes of play. After the Barber free throw, the Scarlet Raiders would score the next six points building a seven point advantage. Barber looked to spark another run and came up with a steal and a layup with 2:16 to play. After a pair of free throws from Jess Reid (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area), Drew found themselves within two of tying the game.

Two turnovers and a missed three pointer in the final 1:18 would set the Rangers back forcing a free throw contest in the final minute of play in which the Scarlet Raiders were able to make six of their final 10.

Both Barber and Coronato with 23 points to lead the Drew attack. Barber had a team-high five assists on the night. On the glass Reid nabbed eight rebounds to go along with a pair of clutch free throws near the end of regulation. The Rangers shot 50 percent in the second half and almost 46 percent from beyond the arc.

Tomorrow's game against St. Joseph's is set to tip-off at 1:00 in Boston.
