SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Misericordia hounded Shenandoah University into a poor shooting day Sunday afternoon in a 57-39 consolation round victory at the Swarthmore Tip-off Tournament.

Shenandoah (1-2) shot just 25.9 percent (15 for 58) as Misericordia (1-2) grabbed third place at the tourney with the win.

After the two teams traded the lead twice and were tied on four occasions early in the contest, MU took the lead for good on a pair of Jesse Robinson free throws with 8:35 remaining in the first half.

Robinson's points started a 13-3 Misericordia run to finish the opening 20 minutes - SU was held to just three free throws (two by Sam Akers and one by Haley Smith) in the final 10:27 of the stanza.

Two Akers field goals early in the second half, the second a 3-pointer, cut the deficit into single digits, but Robinson answered six of the game's next eight points to erase any thoughts of a Shenandoah comeback.

Misericordia eventually pushed its advantage to 20 points before an 8-0 SU run made it a 12-point ballgame with 1:43 remaining.

The Cougars closed the Hornets out by scoring the game's final six points.

Akers led Shenandoah with 14 points while Sierra Edwards added 11. Nicole Gilbertson had a team-high eight boards.

SU is back in action on Tuesday at No. 17 Mary Washington.
