Spartan Women Start Fast, Never Look Back in 80-48 Win versus Earlham at Radisson Classic

PITTSBURGH, PA – Junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon) led three Spartans in double-figures with a game-high 18 points as the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team made it two-for-two at the 2010 Radisson Classic with an 80-48 victory versus Earlham College (IN) on Saturday, November 20 at Skibo Gymnasium on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University (PA).  

With their 2-0 weekend at CMU, the Spartans improve to 3-0 overall and return home to host cross-town rival Baldwin-Wallace College this Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland. With its loss, Earlham drops to 0-3.

The Spartans opened the game on a 16-6 run ending in a jumper by junior forward Marissa Miles (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) at the 14:44 mark. Earlham scored four straight and pulled to within six, at 16-10, with two Danielle Altman free throws at 12:35. However, the Spartans answered with a 6-0 run to move ahead by 12 and would not allow their lead to drop below nine the rest of the way. 

The Case advantage grew to a high of 22 in the first half, at 40-18, when sophomore center Emily Mueller (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Claire) scored a layup with 1:22 left before intermission. The Quakers were able to trim their deficit to 20, at 40-20, with two free throws in the final minute.

The Spartans outscored the Quakers 40-28 in the second half and led by as many as 37 when junior forward Chelsea Peck (Mt. Lebanon, PA/Oakland Catholic) hit a layup to make the score 74-37 with 4:30 left to play.

In addition to Hollinger's 18-point, six-rebound effort, senior forward Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) totaled nine points, eight rebounds and five assists one day after hitting the game-winning free throw versus Muskingum University.

Miles and sophomore guard Evy Iacono (Cincinnati, OH/Mount Notre Dame) each chipped in with 10 points and sophomore guard Erica Iafelice (North Canton, OH/Hoover) recorded nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
