Diplomats Fall to Blue Jays

LANCASTER, Pa – Four Elizabethtown players hit double digits in scoring to help lift the Blue Jays to an 81-70 win over Franklin & Marshall Friday night in the first round of the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament.

The win moves the Jays to 2-1 overall while F&M suffered its first loss of the season and sit at 1-1.

Elizabethtown will play Catholic, an 81-77 winner over Eastern Mennonite in Friday's first game, in Saturday's championship game at 6 p.m. The Diplomats will take on Eastern Mennonite in the consolation game slated for 2 p.m.

Up by five, 23-18, with 8:26 left in the first half, Elizabethtown went on an 11-0 run to make it 34-18. Kendra Beittel, who knocked in 17 points off the bench, hit a three before Megan Strohman connected on a jumper and drained a trey for the Jays.

The Diplomats answered with a 10-3 run to close out the first half. Elizabeth Snyder got things rolling with a three before a pair of free throws from Alexa Barbush made it 34-23. Snyder's steal at the 2:20 mark led to a Megan Pauley layup. The Diplomats closed the half out with a free throw from Snyder and a jumper from Barbush to trail 37-28 at the break.

The second half went back and forth where the teams combined for 86 points.

Pauley led all scorers with a game-high 27 for the Diplomats. Pauley went 4-of-9 from behind the arc and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. Barbush added 19 for F&M while Snyder finished with 11. Alison Menna pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Diplomats and Kristina McCarthy added 6.

Stephanie Ellwood paced Elizabethtown with 18 points with Kaity Snyder and Strohman adding 14 and 12 respectively. Snyder finished with a game-high nine assists with Ellwood and Kelly Sauerzopf each adding seven.
