Women's Basketball Falters in Loss Against DeSales University

RADNOR, Pa. – The DeSales University women's basketball team shot 53.6 percent from the field in the first half and got a 12-point, 12-rebound effort from junior forward Cherelle Simmons en route to a 71-42 victory versus the Cabrini women's basketball team on Wednesday night at Nerney Field House. Freshman forward Colleen Stewart led the Cavaliers' attack with a team and season-high 10 points.

Stewart shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field overall and also grabbed four rebounds. Freshman point guard Brittany Sandone added nine points.

Senior guard Julie Bonomo, who made her first career start, junior guard Laura Caron and freshman guard Leithie Faison each contributed four points. Freshman forward Annie Rivituso totaled a club-best six boards.

The Bulldogs led by as much as 17 points in the first half and owned a 36-24 cushion at the intermission. Senior guard Lori Lidlow powered the DSU offense in the opening 20 minutes with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting.

Cabrini opened the second period on a 9-4 run and cut its deficit to seven points, 40-33, at the 15:42 mark. Sandone spurred the run with a three-point field goal before Stewart capped it with a lay-in off a feed from Rivituso.

However, DeSales put together a 26-2 run over the next 11 minutes and secured a comfortable 66-35 advantage with 4:56 on the clock. The Bulldogs shot 50.9 percent from the field for the game overall.

Lidlow finished with a game-high 17 points. Freshman guard Sondrine Glovas tallied nine points and collected five rebounds. Sophomore Colleen Gavin also chipped in with nine points off the bench.

Cabrini (0-2) plays its first game away from Nerney Field House on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Montclair State University. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
