The Benedictine University men's basketball team saw their season come to a close in one of the best games of the year nationally, dropping a wild 83-83 decision in triple overtime in the semifinals of the NACC Tournament after both teams consistently converted on wild shots to keep the game alive.

Benedictine stormed out of the gates on the road, leading nearly the entire first half. Ryan Sammons gave Benedictine a double-digit lead at 15-5 just over five minutes into the game. The lead would grow to 12 but St. Norbert slowly chipped away, drawing within 28-26 at the half. Neither team led by more than four points for the remaining 35 minutes of play. The wild game reached overtime when Trevor Montiel, who has made a career out of hitting game-winning or tying shots, knocked down an adjusted off-balance 13-footer to tie the game at 58 just seconds after St. Norbert opened a two-point lead, narrowly beating the buzzer. St. Norbert scored the final three points in the first overtime to extend the contest. Trailing by four midway through the second extra session, Benedictine was able to send the game to a third five-minute session when Montiel hit a three and Drew Stokes equaled the game with a jumper with just 12 seconds remaining. The hosts led by four again in the third overtime period with just 1:46 to go but Montiel, who was battling foul trouble the whole game, hit another three. St. Norbert missed two chances to potentially put the game away but another tough shot from Montiel was off the mark just before the buzzer, ending the year.

The contest featured seven ties and eight lead changes. Benedictine shot 40 percent for the contest and scored 38 points in the paint. The team finished +12 on the glass, snaring 48 defensive boards but shot just 17.9 percent from beyond the arc (5-28). Montiel, who led the team in scoring during three of his four years, tallied 26 points to go along with 15 rebounds. Drew Stokes notched 20 with eight rebounds while Ryan Sammons finished with 14. Tanner Resch also notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The team used an eight-man rotation with the starting five playing most of the contest.

Benedictine finished the season with a 16-11 record.
