Johns Hopkins Bests Franklin & Marshall, 73-58

BALTIMORE, MD – The 20th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 73-58 win over visiting Franklin & Marshall Tuesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 17-5 overall and 13-2 in the conference, while the Diplomats slip to 17-5 and 12-3.

Hopkins led 62-44 after a Brayden Fagbemi three-pointer at the 8:05-mark, but a Vakaris Grauslys triple on the other end sparked a 12-2 F&M run. Grauslys accounted for all 12 Diplomat points as they sliced the deficit to just eight with 4:43 on the clock. Freshman Jeb Williams halted the run with a three from the corner to push the lead back to double digits.

John Seidman made a driving layup to pull F&M back within nine at the 2:52-mark. But it was all Hopkins for the final two and a half minutes as the Blue Jays closed out the game with six unanswered points.

Hopkins jumped out to a 7-1 lead before a 6-2 Franklin & Marshall spurt made it a 9-7 game at 15:51. The teams traded buckets over the ensuing six minutes and the Blue Jays led 14-12. A Will Sykes put-back ignited a 9-3 run as the Jays pushed out to a 23-15 lead with 5:36 on the clock. Omar Nichols and Grauslys sandwiched buckets around a John Windley triple and it was 26-20 just 60 seconds later. Sidney Thybulle answered with a bucket in the paint and Hopkins was off and running. JHU closed the half on a 10-3 run to take a 36-23 lead into the break.

The Blue Jays picked up right where they left off and quickly pushed their lead to 20 just two and a half minutes into the second. The Diplomats kept battling, fueled by a trio of three-pointers, and cut the deficit to 13 at the 15:01-mark. A Fagbemi pull-up jumper, followed by a Windley trey pushed the lead back to 18. The lead see-sawed up and down over the next five minutes and Hopkins led 62-44.
