No. 20 Carroll Clinches Spot In CCIW Tournament As They Move Into Tie For First Place

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The 20th-ranked Carroll women's basketball team won for the 12th time in their last 13 games Saturday afternoon, defeating North Park 92-58 to clinch a spot in the CCIW Tournament for the fourth consecutive season. That marks the program's longest such streak since 2015, and moves the Pioneers into a first-place tie with #14 Illinois Wesleyan atop the conference standings.

Carroll (17-4, 10-2 CCIW) outscored North Park (3-19, 0-13 CCIW) in the paint by a 50-34 margin. They also held a 21-3 advantage in second-chance points, as the Pioneers out-rebounded the Vikings 55-31. Carroll also scored 32 points off 21 North Park turnovers, while scoring 17 fast break points.

Despite the lopsided score, North Park hung around early, as the first half featured three ties and four lead changes. Carroll forward Natalie Gricius turned in a career-high 24 points on the day, as she scored 11 points in the first four minutes of the contest to give Carroll an early 17-8 advantage. North Park would cut that lead to four after one quarter of play and would take their first lead of the afternoon in the second period. Then, with North Park leading 31-29 with eight and a half minutes remaining in the half, Carroll showed why they are a top-20 team in the nation, ending the half on a 30-6 run to take a comfortable 22-point lead into intermission.

The Pioneers then coasted for the remainder of the game, outscoring North Park 33-21 after halftime. Carroll shot 45 percent (33-73) on the day, including 36 percent (5-14) from 3-point range, while North Park converted 39 percent (34-67) of their shots and 14 percent (3-21) of their 3-pointers.

Gricius' game-high 24 points came on 9-of-13 shooting, as she made her only 3-point attempt. Olivia Rangel, fresh of reaching the 1,000 career points milestone, finished with 23 points, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists, while also adding four steals to lead all players. Allison Thompason also had a solid game, scoring 11 points in 15 minutes off the bench, while also pulling down seven boards.

North Park was led by Victoria Perry's 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Caroline Long and Hailey Lyczak added eight points apiece for the Vikings.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll host Wheaton College at 7 p.m. from Van Male Fieldhouse in Waukesha, Wis.
