Hope rolls past Adrian, eyes showdown at Calvin

The Hope College men's basketball team kept things rolling on the road.

The Flying Dutchmen gained their third MIAA victory away from home in four games by defeating Adrian College, 91-62, on Saturday.

Hope moved to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in MIAA play. The Flying Dutchmen are tied for first place in the league standing with Calvin University and Trine University.  Adrian fell to 3-12 overall and 1-3 in MIAA play. 

Owners of a season-high, six-game winning streak, Hope continues out on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 17, with a 7:30 p.m. game in The Rivalry against Calvin.

It was the Flying Dutchmen's largest margin of victory at Adrian since an 81-49 win in 2007. 

Hope, which led 51-31 at halftime, shot 63.9% from the field for the game and finished with four players in double-digits.

Senior Tanner Wiegerink (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa HS) grabbed a game-high 18 points, going 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. 

Junior Gabe Quillan (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) added 13 points while grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.

Teammates sophomore Justice Mims (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams) and senior TJ McKenzie (Muskegon, Michigan / North Muskegon) tallied 12 and 10 points, off the bench respectively. 

Junior Ben Wagar (Harbor Springs, Michigan / Petoskey) chipped in nine points. 

Sophomore guard Marcus Wourman (East Lansing, Michigan / East Lansing) dished out a game-high five assists.

The Flying Dutchmen outscored Adrian 62-30 in the paint. 

Adrian shot just 30.4% from the field.
