Redlands Men's Basketball gets back into the win column with blowout win over Kalamazoo

THOUSDAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (5-2, 0-1) returned to non-conference play with a 101-58 blowout win over Kalamazoo College on Monday evening in a game hosted by California Lutheran University.

Things got started for the Bulldogs when Sam Abere made a jumper on a fastbreak to open the scoring. Abere's basket started a 7-0 run to begin the game. The next two baskets came from Jhace Boston who hit a three off an Abere assist and Khyree Armstead was also assisted by Abere on a basket in the paint.

The first double-digit lead for Redlands came inside of the first six minutes as they led 15-3 after Power made a three off an Armstead assist.

Kalamazoo would score 10 of the next 14 points and got within six, 19-13. The Bulldogs would respond with a 14-2 run and led by 18, 33-15, with 7:07 left in the half.

The Hornets again pulled the game back, 33-23, only two minutes after the Bulldogs led by 18, but they would end the half with scoring 16 of the final 21 points as they led by 21, 49-28, as Abere ended the half the way it started with the final two points.

Kendrick Currey opened the second half with the first points as the Bulldogs scored the opening six points with Armstead and Boston each adding a pair of points.

Cameron Joseph got the Bulldogs their first 30-point lead with 11:53 on the clock as Boston found him for a three and a 67-36 lead.

Redlands would control the game the rest of the way as they won by 43, including leading by as many as 46, 101-55, after Joseph made a pair of free throws.

Boston, Joseph, Ivan Belkin, and Malachi Miller all scored in double figures as all 12 Bulldogs got on the scoresheet. The Bulldogs finished with 24 steals. Currey had five steals while Miller and Cameron Brown each recorded four.

Redlands will finish their two-game stint with a matchup with Illinois Wesleyan University tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
