Vikings Suffer Overtime Loss to Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. - Vikings Men's Basketball fell in their SAA opener on the road in an overtime thriller to the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe 79-74.

Opening three pointers from each team started the game off strong in the first two minutes as Jacob Morgan nailed his first. Morgan followed his performance closing a 10-0 run for Berry to shoot up 10-3 in the opening four minutes.

Jumping back into the game with two three's the Petrels refused to be shutout on their home court. Five points from leading scorer, Chase Ellis gave the team another eight point lead with almost nine minutes to go in the first half (21-13).

Oglethorpe tried to peck their way back within a possessions but to close out the later half of the first period, Braxton Benham had two three's as another teammate tagged along with another to complete a scoring frenzy and be up 35-22 at halftime.

After the half, the Vikings had no trouble holding their distance throughout the first ten minutes with buckets from Ellis and Isaac Martin chiming in a quick five. The momentum began to shift with paint points as the Stormy Petrels outscored the Vikings 40-24 throughout the game and 28-10 in the second period.

Three layups to make a 6-0 run for the Petrels left the Vikings stunned with 38 seconds left. Neither team produced a bucket and the Vikings headed to their first overtime of the season.
