Men's Basketball Opens 2023-24 Campaign in, 63-54, win at Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, Mass.--Junior guard Deyshawn Tengbeh (East Providence, R.I.) dropped 21 points and corralled 11 rebounds, while Head Coach Sam Ferry secured his first collegiate win, as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team defeated Fitchburg State, 63-54, in both club's season opener on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC started the game on a 14-2 run to take a 10-point lead midway through the first half. The Falcons would slowly chip away at the deficit to bring the score to 26-20 after 20 minutes of play.
 
• Tengbeh drilled a three-point jumper to kick off the second half, but the Falcons were able to later go on a 7-0 run in just under a minute to tie the game at 37 apiece.
 
• In the latter stages of the second half, Tengbeh and senior forward Ousmane Kourouma (Woonsocket, R.I.) would lead the Anchormen offense and close out the contest.
 
• Kourouma also recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to MIT on Friday, Nov. 10 (7 p.m.).
