MBB: Panthers stumble, fall to Brandeis

 

WALTHAM, Mass. The Plymouth State University men's basketball team was defeated by the Brandeis University Judges, 83-48, in a non-conference game in Red Auerbach Arena Tuesday night.

After falling behind by double-digits in the opening frame, the Panthers got the game to within one possession early in the second half before the Judges pulled away with a comfortable victory.

Sophomore Torran Bosworth (Springfield, Mass.) led the Panthers with 11 points, as senior Kyler Bosse (Manchester, N.H.) added 10 points of his own. Freshman Tyler Clark-Toy (Concord, N.H.) continued his notable rookie season, recording seven points in the losing effort for the Panthers.

Bosse brings his career point total to 971, leaving him 29 points shy of the elusive 1,000-point club.

The Panthers fall to 4-2 on the season, while Brandeis improves to 3-2.

How it Happened:

  • The Panthers opened on a 9-2 run with 14:31 remaining in the first half of play.
  • Eighteen unanswered points found Brandeis up 20-9 with 8:04 on the clock in the first half.
  • The teams traded buckets to close out the first half, as the Panthers trailed 28-19 as the players went into the locker room.
  • Plymouth State wasted no time getting back into the game, mimicking the first half with another 9-2 run to open the second, cutting the deficit to 30-28.
  • The Judges woke up, responding with 12 straight points to go back up 42-28 with 14:41 to go in the contest.
  • Brandeis began to pull away midway through the second half as the lead grew too far out of reach for the Panthers.

By the Numbers:

  • PSU shot 15-of-47 (31.9%) from the floor, and 5-of-12 (41.7%) from three.
  • The Judges outrebounded Plymouth State overall, 35-25, as each team brought down 11 offensive rebounds.
  • Bench scoring was in Brandeis' favor, 32-20
  • Points in the paint went to the Judges, 36-14.
  • It was the first meeting between the two teams.
