Guilford Men's Basketball Opens the Season in Style

The Guilford College men's basketball team opened the new year on the road against Methodist University. The Quakers grasped an early lead and did not look back with a 74-59 victory.

Tyler Dearman led the way for Guilford with a double-double of 21 points and 11 steals. Julius Burch added another 15 points for the Quakers.

In the first half, Guilford jumped out to a six-point lead with a three by Rob Littlejohn. Methodist narrowed the margin to one (8-7) before the Quakers rattled off a 16-2 run. Gabe Proctor scored five of the points with four from Dearman and Burch. 

The Monarchs tried to narrow the difference but the visiting squad maintained the lead. At the halftime horn, GC led 41-28 going into the locker room.

For the entirety of the second half, Guilford did not give up its advantage. The visiting team maintained a double-digit edge and won by the 15-point advantage. 

Littlejohn was the third Quaker in double digits with 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds. As a team, GC shot 49.2-percent (30-61) from the field and out rebounded the opposition, 34-30.

Guilford (1-0) hits the road on Wednesday, November 15 against North Carolina Wesleyan University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
