BW Men’s Basketball Takes Down Wilmington on the Road

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Wilmington College in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup by a final score of 87-57 on Hermann Court inside the Fred Raizk Arena. 

BW (8-9, 4-6 OAC) Leaders

  • The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore guard Ashton Price (Bay Village/Bay) as he tallied 22 points, with three rebounds and two assists.
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) added 18 points to the scoreboard for BW. He also recorded seven rebounds and two assists.
  • Freshman guard Ray Ellington (Westlake) followed up with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Wilmington (5-12, 1-9 OAC) Leaders

  • Collin Barker led the Quakers with 22 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
  • Izaiah Cathey added nine points and two rebounds for Wilmington.

First Half (BW 34-23)

  • The Yellow Jackets got the game started with a 6-0 run which was responded by back-to-back threes from Wilmington to tie up the score at 11:52.
  • Some back-and-forth action ensued until a pair of free throws from Price got BW started on an 11-0 run, giving the Yellow Jackets a 10-point lead with 3:38 left in the first half.
  • Mazzeo knocked down a three to give BW a 34-22 advantage just before the end of the half. Wilmington ended the half with a single free throw, sending the teams into halftime with BW leading 34-23.
  • Mazzeo led the Yellow Jackets in the first half with seven points and two rebounds.
  • Senior forward Jack Simmons (Wadsworth) added six points and two rebounds. 

Second Half (BW 87-57)

  • Mazzeo got the scoring started in the second half when he knocked down a three, then made three additional free throws. Supplemented by a layup from Price, the Yellow Jackets earned an 8-0 run to start the second half.
  • The Yellow Jackets strengthened their lead to 24 when Wilmington went on a 11-2 run to cut BW's lead to 15 with 11:36 left to go.
  • Wilmington worked to catch up, but the Yellow Jackets were able to build up to a 23-point advantage with back-to-back threes from Ellington and Price.
  • BW ended the game on a short 5-0 run, taking the victory by a final score of 87-57.
  • The Yellow Jackets were led by Price in the second half who knocked down 18 points.
  • Mazzeo contributed 11 points and three rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 25th when they host Heidelberg University in an OAC matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
