Slow Start Dooms Men's Basketball in Road Loss to Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA (January 21, 2023) -- The King's College men's basketball team faced a daunting deficit at the break and could not overcome a slow start as they fell, 79-59, on the road at Delaware Valley University on Saturday afternoon to start the second half of their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) schedule. The Monarchs drop to 6-11 overall and 1-8 in the MAC Freedom standings, while the Aggies improve to 9-9 with a 4-5 conference mark.

 

King's (6-11, 1-8 MAC Freedom) held an 8-2 advantage off a three from junior Will Johnson with 14:11 to play in the first half, but the host Delaware Valley (9-9, 4-5 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring as they rattled off 39 points to just 13 by King's as they went into the break leading the Monarchs, 41-21.

 

Despite an evenly matched scoring effort in the second half, the Aggies continued their momentum in the second as they rattled off the first eight points of the half and never looked back as they handed King's the 79-59 loss in the MAC Freedom match up in Doylestown, Pa.

 

Sophomore Chris Patton led King's with 12 points, adding six rebounds, and a team-high two steals. Senior Collin Cook came off the bench to total double figures with 10 points, adding five boards, while first year JJ Walsh tallied nine points with a team-high three assists and two steals. Additionally, first year Garrett Burys collected seven caroms and blocked two shots, and senior Tyler Faux also pulled down seven boards.

 

Goddy Marc led three off the bench in double figures for the Aggies with 16 points, while both Jordan Gombs and Zoelin Pair totaled a team-best seven rebounds apiece. Additionally, Goddy Marc dished out a team-leading five helpers.

 

King's totaled 10 dimes on their 19 field goals, while edging out Delaware Valley in the battle on the boards, 45-39. The Monarchs also held the advantage in second chance points as they out scored the Aggies, 17-16.

 

King's will return to their home court in McGrane Gymnasium as they host DeSales University in the first game of the MAC Freedom doubleheader. The game is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
