GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan - November 22, 2022 - Hiram saw its 3-game win streak come to an end in a 91-61 loss to Calvin University at Van Noord Arena. The Terriers kept pace early before the Knights pulled away in the first all-time meeting between the two programs. Calvin has been one of the better teams in Division III since the start of last season, entering play with a 4-0 record this season after having a 22-9 record in 2021-22.

Trent Jakacki, the reigning NCAC Player of the Week, scored 12 points on 5-10 shooting from the field. Kevin Beans Jr. and Ricky Esdel added 8 points apiece, while Brodgie Gordon dished out 5 assists. Freshman Dushawn Hill led the team with 13 points off the bench.

Hiram's 3-game win streak was tied for its longest over the last 5 seasons; the team also won 3 straight in January 2022. Entering the day, the 3-game streak was tied for the 2nd-longest active win streak in the NCAC (Wabash, 6 | DePauw, 3).

Neither team led by more than 4 points over the first 10 minutes of the game, which included 8-4 and 15-12 Hiram leads. Beans Jr. made each of his first 2 three-pointers and Jakacki added 5 points of his own during that span.

Calvin would find its groove in the later stages of the half, going on a 23-4 run to take a 35-19 lead with 6:44 remaining. Hiram battled back and cut the deficit to 10 points on three different occasions prior to a 46-32 score at the intermission.

The Knights offense proved to be too much in the second half. They made 5 of their first 7 three-point attempts and eventually closed out the Terriers.

Hiram will look to bounce back in its next game at Wooster on Wednesday, November 30 at 7:15 p.m.
