MADISON, WIS. — The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's basketball team traveled to Edgewood College for their second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup of the season. The Cougars scraped their way past the Eagles and became 2-0 in conference with a score of 79-78.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Three Cougars scored in double digit numbers

  • Jacob Collicott (Lafayette, Ind.) and Brent Hatten (Olney, Ill.) both led the Cougars with 20 points apiece

  • Following right behind them was Jordan Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) with 18 points, five assists, and seven rebounds

Right from the beginning of the game, the Cougars wanted to make a statement as they immediately scored off of a Collicott layup. Hatten and Matthews both grabbed points of their own to start the game off to an 8-5 lead. Edgewood began to battle back as both teams started to fight for the lead in points going into a score of 14-14. Matthews and Hatten found an opportunity to have a three-point party and bring the Cougars ahead 23-20.

Barcus Jackson Jr. (Belleville, Ill.) and Matthews also brought on their own points for an 11 point lead for the Cougars with a score of 32-21. Hatten found himself, again, with the three-point opportunity and William Bishop-Green (Chicago, Ill.) pulled out the moves to have the Cougars leading 43-28 at the half.

Bishop-Green and Collicott opened up the half with some quick moves to continue the CUC lead. As Edgewood continued to try and chip away at the score, Hatten and Matthews joined the second half scoring and helped bring CUC to 56-39. The Eagles were able to bring the score within single digits until Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) scored and gained an extra point at the free throw line. Edgewood found their stride and ended up taking the lead off of a layup with a score of 69-67. Collicott immediately responded with a smack down dunk to tie the game back up at 69-69.
