Salisbury outlasts Gallaudet, 74-65

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team overcame an early deficit and defeated the Gallaudet Bison, 74-65, in the final home game for the Sea Gulls before the Thanksgiving holiday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury's shooting was unusually cold to begin the first half. The Sea Gulls allowed Gallaudet to get out to an 8-0 lead before Brandon Craig scored the first basket for SU with 12 minutes left in the first half.
  • Craig's layup sparked a 10-3 run for the Sea Gulls to pull within one, 11-10, with just under nine minutes on the clock.
  • The Bison responded with a 14-4 run to jump out to their largest lead of the half, 25-14, at the 6:14 mark.
  • Salisbury clamped down on defense and began to hit shots. With 1:05 on the clock, Greg Bloodsworth drilled a three-pointer to tie the game at 29.
  • Two possessions later, Bloodsworth drew a foul and knocked down his free throws with four seconds left on the clock to cap off a 17-4 run for the Sea Gulls and head into halftime with a 31-29 lead.
  • With the game tied at 34, Craig drove the lane and scored a basket to start a 9-0 run for Salisbury.
  • Gallaudet refused to back down. Corey Smith knocked down a three with just under 11 minutes left to play to pull back to within one, 43-42.
  • The Sea Gulls began to pull away, and after Sean Carr made a tough second-chance layup, Salisbury had its largest lead of the day, 61-51, with 3:23 left.
  • The Bison again refused to give in. Preston Kelly drilled a contested three-point jumper with 34 seconds on the clock to make it 66-62.
  • After failing to force a turnover, Gallaudet was forced to foul and put Salisbury on the line. The Sea Gull closed out the game 8-for-8 on free throws, and the game ended with a final score of 74-65.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury shot 39 percent (23-for-59) from the field.
  • Brandon Craig registered a double-double with 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting and 11 rebounds.
  • Greg Bloodsworth scored 19 points, grabbed five boards, and dished out a game-high five assists.
  • Sean Carr scored 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting.
  • Andrew Silver chipped in five points, six rebounds, and two assists.
  • Salisbury dominated on the glass and outrebounded Gallaudet, 41-28.

GALLAUDET GAME NOTES

  • Gallaudet shot 42 percent (21-for-50) from the field.
  • Preston Kelly led the Bison with 19 points and six rebounds.
  • Corey Smith and Rory Lewis each scored 16 points.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury will host PSU-Altoona on Sunday, Nov. 27.
  • Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Maggs PAC.
