Cochrane Records Double-Double in First Game With the Scots

MARYVILLE - A double-double from Charlie Cochran helped lead Maryville to a decisive 76-55 opening-night victory.

Cochran, a senior transfer student from East Texas Baptist made an immediate impact for his new team scoring 19 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.

The 6-foot-7 forward figures to be a key player for Coach Raul Placeres and the Scots this season. His teammates also believe that he will have a major impact on the Maryville offense this year.

"Charlie is a really good player, and we are excited to have him." Maryville guard Myles Rasnick said. "He brings a lot of experience and he's a big body. He can play inside and out, and that's something we were missing last year. Man, he really displayed how good he is tonight."

As for Rasnick, he picked up right where he left off last season, scoring a team-high 21 points while shooting 3-for-4 from three and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

While he led the team in scoring, Rasnick acknowledged that it was a strong team win.

"We looked great," Rasnick said. "We built a lot of good chemistry in the offseason, and it really showed with our ball movement. We were moving it around and finding the open guy, and everyone was happy for whoever was playing well. That's a good thing to see in the first game."

The game was even for the first eight minutes of the first half. A Sewanee three-pointer tied the game up with 12 minutes remaining. From there though, it was all Maryville as the Scots went on an 11-0 run making it 28-19 with 7:44 remaining.

The Tigers would score to stop the run but wouldn't come within single digits again for the remainder of the contest. The Scots' largest lead of the game came with two minutes remaining in the contest when Malachi Chipp scored a fast-break bucket to make it 76-48, putting them up by 28 points. Maryville held the lead in the game for 36:18.
