ALFRED, NY – A lightning quick start and a strong shooting performance lifted the University of Rochester men's basketball team to its 17th win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating Alfred State College 100-66 at Orvis Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets (17-7) reached the century mark in points for the first time since February 2017, a 101-58 win over NYU and extended their win streak to four games. Alfred State concludes its season with an 8-17 record.

Rochester held the host Pioneers off the scoreboard for the first six minutes of the game and blasted out to a 17-0 lead, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Andrew Jackson had five points in the run to lead Rochester, while Ross Gang and Matt Wiele each had four points. UR as a team was 8-for-12 to start the contest, while Alfred State opened the game missing its first seven shot attempts.

A 12-4 Pioneer run later in the half pulled Alfred State within ten, but that was as close as the hosts would get the rest of the way as Rochester scored the next 14 points in a row to surge ahead 43-19.

Overall for the game, the Yellowjackets shot 56.3% from the field, second best in a game this season and drained 10-of-18 from 3-point range, matching a season-high in treys.

Leading the way was Brian Amabilino Perez who had 18 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 8-of-14 from the field. Jackson finished with 16 points off the bench for Rochester while Wiele and Matt Niemczura each had 14 points. Wiele was 7-for-8 from the floor, while Niemczura was 5-for-6, including going 2-for-2 from distance.

Two others had double-digit points, with Trent Noordsij scoring 11 and Dan Masino chipping in 10 to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Gang added 7 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.

Alfred State had two players reach double-figures, as Paris Jamison and Basheem Wilkerson each had 11 points. Rochester's defense held the Pioneers in check, as the hosts shot just 35.5% from the field (22-62) and committed 17 turnovers.

Rochester will now turn its attention to the regular season finale set for Saturday afternoon at Emory University.
