TIFFIN, Ohio — Lukas Isaly scored a game-high 28 points, including his 1000th career point at Marietta College, to lead the No. 2 ranked Pioneers over Heidelberg University by the score of 86-62 Saturday (Feb. 19) afternoon. Isaly scored on a layup at the 15:55 mark of the second half to surpass the 1000th point milestone.

"It's very fitting that Lukas joined the 1,000-point club today with another really special performance. He put on a show today like he's done throughout his career," Marietta head coach Jon VanderWal said. "Lukas is one of the best point guards in the country and I feel blessed that I've been able to coach him the past 4 years."

With today's win, the 20th straight victory for the Pioneers, Marietta enters next week's Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with a 22-2 overall record. The Pioneers finished with a perfect 17-0 OAC record becoming the first school to go undefeated in the OAC since Otterbein went 16-0 in 1985-86. Marietta tied Wooster, who went 17-0 in 1938-39, for the most wins in an undefeated OAC season.

"I still can't believe we went undefeated in the OAC. It's kind of hard to fathom," VanderWal said. "Especially this year with the quality of teams in the conference. It just tells you how special these young men are!"

Marietta jumped out to an early lead with three-pointers from Mason Lydic, Isaly and Jason Ellis. A layup from Ellis at the 15:43 mark gave the Pioneers a six-point lead, 14-8. Heidelberg battled back and grabbed the lead on a jumper from Isaiah Young six minutes later.

The teams traded small leads over the next several minutes. A Cooper Parrott layup in the final minute of the first half put the Pioneers in front for good. Marietta took a slim 38-36 advantage into halftime.

Marietta opened the second half with back-to-back buckets from Isaly and Tim Kreeger. The Pioneers gradually opened some breathing room. Sahmi Willoughby scored on a put back layup to make it a nine-point game, 50-41, five minutes into the second half.

A few minutes later Isaly and Ellis each drained three-pointers to push the margin into double figures, 59-45.

Any hopes Heidelberg had of making a comeback were thwarted by the long-range shooting of Isaly and Ellis as they continued to sink three-pointers seemingly at will. Each had four triples in the second half.

After Marietta cleared its bench, Torin Lochow provided the exclamation point with a three-pointer for MC's final points of the game.

Isaly led all scorers with 28 points including six three-pointers. Ellis finished with 24 points and five triples. Kreeger chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds. Willoughby continued his dominance on the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Emmanuel Perdue led the Student Princes with 18 points. Young added 17 points, while Zane Leitwein finished with 13 points. Eric Panning grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

Marietta, the No. 1 seed in next week's OAC Tournament, will host the winner of Monday's Muskingum vs. Ohio Northern game. The Pioneers will tip-off at 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 22).
