HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) scored 18 points, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 75-65 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball decision at home to Bridgewater College on Monday night in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The host Tigers trailed 37-32 at halftime, but rallied back to lead 53-52 with 11:07 remaining, before dropping to 12-9 overall, 7-7 in the ODAC. Zach Hatter and Shod Smith each scored a game-high 20 points for the visiting Eagles, who closed the game on a 17-10 run over the final 7:58, while improving to 9-13 overall, 5-9 in the ODAC.

"We were flat from the start of the game today," said third-year head coach Caleb Kimbrough. "I never thought we got into rhythm on either end of the floor. We will take a look at the film and make sure we are making the corrections to finish out this week strong."

H-SC fell behind early as BC jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead at 15:42 behind eight points from Hatter, including two three-point field goals. The Tigers responded with an 11-4 run to close to within 14-13 at 11:28, the run starting and ending with three-pointers from sophomore DJ Wright (Greensboro, GA). The Eagles extended the margin to 26-20 with 7:13 on the first-half clock, before the Garnet & Grey battled back with a 10-2 run to lead 30-28 at 2:09—getting four points each from Clements and sophomore Alex Elliott (Marietta, GA), along with a basket by sophomore Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC). The visitors, however, outscored the hosts 9-2 to the buzzer to lead 37-32 at the intermission.

H-SC started the second half strong and quickly took a 43-39 lead with 16:28 remaining as four different players scored points, including five from Clements. The Tigers maintained the advantage and led 50-46 at 12:47 after a layup by freshman Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC), and a free throw by sophomore Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) gave the Garnet & Grey their last lead at 53-52 with 11:07 left to play. BC scored six unanswered points to lead 58-53 at 9:41, but Clements scored on a jumper to cut the lead to 58-55 at 8:53. Unfortunately, that was as close as the hosts would get as the Eagles pushed their advantage to 64-57 with 5:42 remaining, and H-SC could get no closer than four points down the stretch on three occasions—that last at 69-65 following a three-pointer by fifth-year Jake Hahn (Ruckersville) with 43-seconds on the clock.

Clements led H-SC with his 18 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists. Wright added nine points off the bench for the Tigers. Brazil contributed eight points, while Elliott and Hahn each added seven points. H-SC shot 43% (28-65) from the field, including 23% (5-22) on three-pointers, and 7% (4-6) at the free throw line.

Hatter and Smith each led BC with their respective game-highs of 20 points, with Smith adding a game-high seven assists. Alec Topper and Aaron Oates each added 12 points for the Eagles, with Topper grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. BC shot 50% (24-48) from the field, including 38% (9-24) on three-pointers, and 86% (18-21) at the line.

H-SC will play on the road at archrival and nationally-ranked No. 1 Randolph-Macon College in ODAC action on Wednesday night, February 16, at 7 p.m. in Ashland.
