ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team hung on to defeat Immaculata University 62-59 on Monday evening in an Atlantic East Conference match-up.

 

KJ Speller and Jalen Vaughns each tallied a double-doubles in the game. Speller finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Vaughns netted 17 points and grabbed 11 boards. Tony James added eight points and eight rebounds. TJ Lewis and Ryan Starr each also scored eight points in the win.

 

Immaculata held the lead throughout the first half. The Mighty Macs built a 10-point advantage, 14-4, six minutes into the game. Neumann pulled to within five, 18-13, midway through the half. Immaculata then went on an 8-0 run to take a 26-13 lead. A layup by Speller in the final minute of the first half pulled the Knights to within seven, 28-21, heading into the break.

 

The Knights started to chip their way into the deficit. With 13:48 on the clock, a three-pointer by Starr gave Neumann its first lead of the game, 35-34. Tied at 50, James hit a jumper to put the Knights up 52-50 with 6:14 on the clock. Neumann's largest lead was six, 58-52, with 3:42 left in regulation. A Mighty Macs three-pointer with under two minutes left brought them back to within one, 60-59.

 

Starr hit two free throws with 22 seconds left to put the Knights up by three, 62-59. Immaculata had a shot to tie the game, but the three-pointer wouldn't go, and Neumann hung on for the 62-59 win.

 

Neumann (14-6, 6-1 Atlantic East) will host Marywood on Wednesday in the final home game of the regular season. The Knights will honor their seniors prior to the start of the game.
