Clark Season-High Sends Griffins Past Cavaliers for AEC Prize

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/5/2022) - Sophomore guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) was on-point off the opening tip, having a hand in the first three Gwynedd Mercy University (11-8, 3-4) baskets and scoring a layup that secured the Griffins their first double-digit lead, 20-9 (13:00), of today's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest versus Cabrini University (7-13, 3-5). The Gwynedd Mercy University advantage remained in and around the double-digit range the rest of the opening frame and settled on an even 10 points, 35-25 (1:02), when the Cavaliers scored the final bucket of the half. Out of the locker rooms, Cabrini University cut the spread to six points in the opening minute, 35-29 (18:52). But, Clark took control again. This time he made a pair of free throws (17:34) and a floater in the lane (16:10) before a three-point basket from senior forward Shane Ford (Blue Bell, Pa.) put the Griffins up 13 points, 44-31 (15:00), with 15 minutes remaining. The Cavaliers got their run around the eight-minute mark reducing the Gwynedd Mercy University lead to as few as five points, 53-48, with 6:33 to go. There, Clark struck a third time as he nailed a pair of three pointers (6:09, 4:19) to propel the Griffins to their eventual 68-55 triumph.

Clark finished with a season-high 25 points with an efficient 10-of-12 (.833) shooting performance that came with five rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) was the only other Griffin in double figures as he paired 10 points with four rebounds and four assists. Graduate guard Matt O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) contributed six points and five assists, while Ford finished the contest with six points, a team-high nine rebounds, and a steal.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Monday, February 7, when they visit Centenary University (NJ) for a 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
