Aston, Pa. - (2/2/2022) - Gwynedd Mercy University (10-8, 2-4) scored the first three points of tonight's Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contest, 3-0 (17:49), but gradually fell behind Neumann University (12-6, 4-1) in an eventual 28-19 (0:00) halftime spread. The Knights kept their distance in the second half, allowing the margin to slip to single digits at times (19:10, 13:43, 13:16, 12:02, 5:05) before finishing off the Griffins by a 61-45 (0:39) final. Senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) led Gwynedd Mercy University with 11 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of steals. Graduate guard Matt O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) supported with 12 points and an assist.

The contest was tight in the opening half with the AEC rivals tying six times and the score changing hands five times en route to a nine-point difference with the Knights enjoying the home court advantage with a superior shooting effort (11-of-27 to 6-of-22 FG) and a slight edge on the glass (17-15). In the second half, the persistent Griffins cut the deficit to single digits as late as the five-minute mark with a layup from sophomore guard Aziz Parker (Westhampton, N.J.); 51-43 (5:05). Unfortunately, a set of clutch Neumann University rebounds sealed the Griffins fate as the extra possessions helped the Knights retire the Griffins with a 10-4 closing run.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Saturday, February 5, when they host Cabrini University for a 3:00 p.m. AEC affair.
