Edgewood College Wins at Home Over Illinois Tech

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College Men's Basketball team got back on track Wednesday night with an 84-79 home win over Illinois Tech. The Eagles, who have won six-straight games inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome, were led by a 31-point performance from Jake Schroeckenthaler in the NACC victory.

EAGLES 84, SCARLET HAWKS 79
- The Eagles (7-9, 6-3 NACC) dropped both of its NACC contests last week so Wednesday's matchup was important to keep them near the top of the NACC standings. After building a 44-34 lead by halftime, Edgewood College held off several Scarlet Hawk (5-10, 4-5 NACC) runs in the second half to secure the win.

- The second half saw both teams exchange several mini runs. Illinois Tech started with a 5-0 spurt, but the Eagles went back up nine just minutes later. The Scarlet Hawks never led in the second half, as a matter of fact their only lead came 15 seconds into play, but they got within two points several times down the stretch but the Eagles never surrendered the lead.

- Schroeckenthaler made several big plays down the stretch, including a tip-in make with 1:37 left to push the Eagles lead to 79-75. Eli Hartjes knocked down two free throws to extend the lead to 81-75 and would tack on another one with eight seconds left for an 82-75 lead. The Scarlet Hawks got back within three after a 4-point play by Calvin Schmitz with under three seconds remaining, but Dawson Hughes put the game away for the Eagles with two free throws.

- Both teams shot it well on Wednesday night. The 3-point shot kept Illinois Tech in the game in the second half as they finished 9-for-16 for the game and 8-for-11 in the second half. The Eagles, who have struggled from distance for much of the year, made 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from deep with Adam Baierl connecting on three and Avery Lyons making a couple of 3-pointers.

- Edgewood College shot 51.6 percent (32-for-62) for the game with Schroeckenthaler leading the way with a 13-for-19 performance. The Eagles big man was also 5-for-5 from the free throw line, helping a 13-of-15 (86.7 percent) effort for the Eagles. Hartjes added 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and led the team with 11 rebounds as Edgewood College finished the night with a 34-31 advantage on the boards.

- Baierl added 10 points for the Eagles, while Lyons chipped in eight and Hughes seven. Lyons, Caden Nelson, and Schroeckenthaler all totaled four assists.

- Illinois Tech had four players finish in double figures with Schmitz and Otis Reale each scoring 17 points. Caden Gigstad added 14 points, going 4-for-7 from 3-point range.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Eagles are 6-1 at home this season, winning six in a row after a loss to nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh. Edgewood College has four remaining regular season home games left on the schedule.
