Giants Clutch Up to Take Down Clarks Summit in OT, 69-67

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Albert Pewa (Philadelphia, Pa./Interboro) splashed his lone bucket of the night for the game winner to help propel the Giants past Clarks Summit in overtime, 69-67, Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action at the Huckaby Gymnasium.

Pewa was 0 for 4 from the field prior to making a wide-open 3-pointer off the dish from Jack Anderson (Davie, Fla./Western High) at the 1:32 mark of overtime.

Both teams traded a handful of empty possessions as Clarks Summit final fast-break shot attempt missed as the clock hit zero.

It was the second-consecutive overtime game in as many nights for Keystone, as Saturday's win improved its record to 4-4 in the CSAC (6-11 overall) while getting the season sweep of the Defenders (3-4 CSAC. 6-12 overall).

Outstanding Performers

  • Anderson led the Giants with 25 points to go along with three rebounds and three steals. It was the ninth-consecutive game the freshman finished with double-digit scoring figures.
  • Pete Laidley (Miramar, Fla./Pembrokes Pine Charter) made it three in a row for double-doubles as he tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Ashton West came off the bench for Clarks Summit to shoot 11 of 13 from the field for a team-high 26 points and five steals.

  • Facing a 10-point deficit with under a minute remaining in the first half, the Giants swung momentum with a quick six points on Pete Laidley's (Miramar, Fla./Pembrokes Pine Charter) and-1 bank shot in the paint and Jack Anderson's (Davie, Fla./Western High) fast-break 3-pointer from the corner to make it a 35-31 game at the break.
  • Keystone maintained momentum with a 14-4 run through the first 6:20 of the second half, but a late 11-3 run by the Defenders gave them a one-point lead with under a minute remaining.
  • Tyrell Lacoste (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) was sent to the free-throw line after being fouled on a driving layup attempt with 33 seconds left in regulation. The senior hit on the second attempt to tie the game for the last points of the period.
  • The Defenders dominated in points off turnovers (31 compare to Keystone's 21), points in the paint (40-24) and fast break points (12-2) while the Giants blanked CSU with a 16-0 second chance points advantage.

  • The Giants will have a non-conference road matchup Tuesday evening against Utica College (12-8 overall, 6-1 Empire 8) before returning home next Saturday, Jan. 29 to host Cairn (4-3 CSAC, 10-8 overall).
  • Clarks Summit will play Wilson (6-0 CSAC, 10-4 overall) on Wednesday.
  • Reminder that spectators are not allowed at CSAC events through Jan. 31.
  • With just six conference games remaining and the five-team CSAC Championships under a month away, Keystone currently sits at No. 5 in the standings.
